The first season of "Unstable" ended dramatically with Ellis Dragon (Rob Lowe) setting fire to his rival Jean’s (Christina Chang) car. Season 2 starts right away with the fallout from that decision, focusing on Ellis's unique way of handling the situation.
In the first four minutes of the new season, which you can watch above, Ellis is seen in his basement with his therapist, Leslie (Fred Armisen), pretending to be in prison. His son, Jackson (John Owen Lowe), points out how silly this is.
Rob Lowe explains, "I've always wanted to act in a serious prison drama, and this is the closest I'll get. I even stayed in the prison set for 10 or 15 minutes to prepare." John Owen Lowe jokes about his dad’s dedication, saying, "His commitment was unmatched. Prison Ellis was one of my favorite versions of Ellis."
However, Prison Ellis doesn’t last long because Ellis’s business partner, Anna (Sian Clifford), manages to keep him out of jail. But their company still faces challenges. Anna and the board think the company needs a new leader. Could Jackson take on that role? He wants to be independent but feels pulled back by his dad.
John Owen explains, "Jackson tries to pull away from his dad, but there's always something pulling him back. In Season 2, we really show how hard it is for Jackson to escape Ellis's influence."
The first few minutes of Season 2 also introduce Iris Apatow as Georgia, Anna’s stepdaughter, who becomes an intern at Dragon. This allows the writers to show more of Anna's personal life and background.
Other new characters this season include Lamorne Morris from "Fargo," who plays another biotech creator and adds to the rivalry between Ellis and Jackson.
Don’t miss "Unstable" Season 2 when it premieres on August 1.
